Hello! Recently I've been doing a lot of podcasting, comedy, and sound stuff.

    One year of WtMG

On May 1st I’ll be celebrating (roughly) one year of WtMG! I always call this thing a “fake radio show”, because it only exists on Discord and primarily for the amusement of myself and six to twelve other people. But I love doing it, even though it starts at midnight my time (!) and usually ends around 3am (!!), because it gives me a chance to do some of my favourite things:

    • Chatting with Mountain Goats fans
    • Active listening to some of my favourite songs
    • Doing my radio voice

I’ve talked with friends about moving it off Discord to a more sound-stable and discoverable platform, but ultimately it’s not like Radio Go! or my other projects. I’m not trying to grow it into something larger - I’m trying to serve the lovely community that’s cropped up around this server. Still, if you’d like to see what it’s all about, you can join us on May 1st, and hopefully beyond.

My Life's a Pitch guest spot

Matt Turner and Tom McGrath (the latter of my own show, Radio Go!) have a fantastic long-running comedy podcast called Life’s a Pitch, where they pitch fake movies based on titles suggested by the audience. It rules, and I’ve been a guest a few times over the years. This week, with Tom away, Matt and I pitched family spy movies such as “MI6-Year-Old” and “Mum’s the Word”. It was very silly and is a terrific way to spend an hour. Listen here!

    Radio Go! Live on Stage

What a wonderful night we had at the first ever “Radio Go! Live on Stage” last Sunday! I couldn’t have asked for a more generous and receptive crowd for our maiden voyage, and I’m thrilled to say we succeeded massively in bringing our special brand of nonsense to the stage. We had laughs, songs, and feet all through the night!

My thanks go out to our performers: Pierre Finnimore as adventurer Edwin Fishbutt, Stan Skinny as wrestler Captain “The Butcher” Reality, and Owen Scrivens as his good self! An extra special shout out to our intrepid producer Tom McGrath - we surprised the audience with his appearance, and I’m just delighted he was able to join in the fun!

Thanks also to Jenny Garner for running the tech without a hitch, James Lickman for taking these photos and being exceedingly helpful in all things, and everyone at Alder for having us! My biggest thanks goes to you, if you came - you were the best crowd I could ask for. See you at the next one?

    The WtMG jingles

For my infrequent Mountain Goats radio show WtMG (broadcasting live from the Mountain Goats Discord!) I designed some jingles to intro and outro the show. The vision for these was to contrast the past and present, because we listen to live Mountain Goats tapes on the show. It’s remarkable how many old tMG songs have evolved over the years, particularly with the addition of new bandmates, so the jingles use a fast-forward effect to transition between the old recordings and the new.

I also included the show name (thanks Matt!) and a clip of John Darnielle’s sort-of-catchphrase, the phrase he uses to open every show and the inspiration for the show name: “Hi, we’re the Mountain Goats!” Lastly, there’s references to other songs or favourite bits of stage banter thrown in to create a layered effect. The sound file below has the first six jingles that I created. Check ‘em out!

    My first stand-up show!

Last night I had the pleasure of performing ten minutes in support of my good friend Sash at the Super Secret Showcase Hour. Thank you to everyone who showed up, it was a total blast and I’m so excited to do more!

Radio Go!'s first episode launches today

It’s the start of something beautiful - episode number one! In this premiere episode Riley interviews Frank Abernathy, a vampire (Ash Routh). Plus, we read your comments and bring you the serious news. Listen now at radiogo.show or on your podcast player!

Mixing sketches, stories, songs, and stream-of-consciousness nonsense, Radio Go! is the silliest thing you’ll hear today. Set inside a radio station, the show sees host Riley Routh (The Tide) and producer Tom McGrath (Life’s a Pitch) invite a preposterous guest to join them. From there, absolutely anything can happen, and usually does.

    The Tide finale launch party

The Tide completed its run last week with a live listening party both on Twitch and in real life! The Teahorse crew gathered with some close friends to celebrate this milestone. If you tuned in, thank you so much - we were so delighted to see everyone going off in chat!

I hope it goes without saying, but we’re so proud of The Tide. This little show started life as a seed of an idea almost two years ago, back when we thought it might be six episodes (!) and be done by February 2024 (!!).

But all the best things take time, so while you might not hear from us for a little while please stay glued to this account. Because while The Tide may be done, we’ve had such a good time working together that we’ve already started planning our next show…

With love, Harriet, Matt, and Riley 🌊
